CHINE 2026

MEETING OF STYLES / CHONGQING

September 25–27, 2026, Chongqing, China

Chongqing is an "8D" metropolis a vertical labyrinth where layers of concrete stack up amidst the mist, nourished by the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. In this monumental hive, skyscrapers, suspension bridges, endless staircases, and neon lights collide in a visual cacophony unlike anywhere else on earth.

From the chaotic enchantment of Hongyadong to the raw energy of Huangjueping Graffiti Street, the city pulses with ceaseless activity. Fueled by the creative ferment of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and anchored in deep Ba-Shu roots, Chongqing has become a hub for exhibitions, trade shows, and artistic connections an ideal breeding ground for inspiration, exchange, and monumental projects.

A veritable open-air museum in the heart of the Jiulongpo District, Huangjueping Graffiti Street stands as one of the world’s great temples of street art. Spanning 1.25 kilometers, nearly 50,000 square meters of facades and urban structures have been transformed by a riot of color. Far more than mere decoration, it is an artistic manifesto on a city-wide scale.

Chongqing is absolutely gigantic. It is one of those cities that is almost impossible to understand when you first arrive. Everything seems to be happening on several levels at once — roads, bridges, buildings, metro lines, stairs… That is why people call it an “8D city.” You can walk into a building on what looks like the ground floor and suddenly find yourself several levels above the street. I loved getting lost in this madness.

At night, the city becomes even more crazy. The buildings light up everywhere, creating this huge, almost futuristic landscape. I really enjoyed walking around, watching the lights and discovering the city without always knowing exactly where I was going. The drone show was another highlight — hundreds of lights moving together above the city. I also loved Hongyadong, especially at night, and wandering through the old streets of Ciqikou.

Then came the Meeting of Styles.

The festival was spread across several locations, but they were quite far apart. Getting from one spot to another could take around 40 minutes, so I ended up spending most of my time at the first location, N_LAB. In the end, I actually liked that. I had more time to watch the artists work, meet people and really experience the atmosphere instead of constantly moving from one spot to another.

But there was also a frustrating side to this edition of the festival.

Before the event even started, around 170 of the 200 artists were asked to change their original proposals because the authorities did not approve of certain ideas. For me, that was difficult to understand. Graffiti and street art are supposed to be about freedom, personality and different ways of expressing yourself. Having to rethink a piece before you even start painting obviously changes the whole creative process.

And unfortunately, the story did not end there. After the festival, some of the artworks were erased by the authorities. I found that really sad, especially because there were some beautiful pieces that deserved to remain there. DUDA's work, for example, was one of the paintings I particularly liked.

Still, I am happy I came.

Painting in China, meeting artists from so many different places and experiencing a graffiti festival in a city as crazy as Chongqing was something completely different from what I know in Europe. Even with the restrictions, the trip gave me a lot to think about — not only as an artist, but also about what it really means to create in public space.

And honestly, getting lost in Chongqing's 8D madness was probably just as much a part of the adventure as the festival itself.

MEETING OF STYLES / ZHUZHOU

October 1–7, 2026, Zhuzhou, China

As the Meeting of Styles spreads its reach across China, extending the festival to multiple cities is a natural progression. Across this vast nation, the graffiti scene is buzzing with energy, driven by a new generation of artists who are challenging conventions. In 2026, Zhuzhou once again establishes itself as a pivotal anchor for this visual odyssey.

Here, urban culture is deeply rooted in the physical landscape. Known as the "city born from the railways," Zhuzhou offers its industrial past as one of China’s richest and most textured canvases. Weathered factory walls, endless industrial vistas, massive water towers, and monumental smokestacks create a raw playground where memory engages in a dialogue with creativity. A new energy emerges from these remnants. Dormant industrial sites and rusted steel bear the marks of a bygone era, waiting to be transformed by color and artistic expression. Breathing new life into forgotten spaces this is the shared DNA of Zhuzhou and the Meeting of Styles, a mutual belief in rebirth through art.

Meeting of Styles Zhuzhou / Qingshuitang 1956 Cultural and Creative Industrial Park.

I met so many wonderful people, both artists and organizers. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly and generous, and I really felt part of the community.

The festival location was absolutely crazy: a huge former industrial site that has been beautifully transformed into a public cultural space. Families come there to walk around, have picnics, discover artworks and simply enjoy the place.

For me, this is what made the festival so special. It wasn’t just a graffiti event reserved for artists. The whole site was alive, with people of all ages discovering street art and spending time together.

Being able to create art in such an incredible place, surrounded by so many talented artists from China and around the world, was a truly amazing experience.

Thank you to the whole Meeting of Styles Zhuzhou team for this unforgettable experience. I hope I can come back one day!

One evening during the festival, I managed to lose my wallet in a taxi. 😅

The organizers immediately started making a few phone calls to try to find it. Then, to my surprise, a police car came to pick me up, with Lang, one of the organizers, accompanying me.

We headed to the police station and waited for about 30 minutes...

And then, like magic, my wallet came back and was safely back in my pocket! 😂

But the story didn't end there!

The police officers then asked us to follow them. We ended up in the police station cafeteria, having a meal together with them! 🍜

Afterwards, they told me they wanted a souvenir from me. So we took a group photo with all the police officers.

I had never experienced anything quite like this before. Losing my wallet could have been a disaster, but it turned into one of the funniest and most unexpected memories of my trip to China.

Definitely a story I will never forget!

For this mural, I created two characters inspired by B-boy culture: a B-boy Dragon and a B-boy Panda, a nod to China and to the hip-hop culture that has always been an important part of my artistic world.

Originally, I wanted another graffiti artist to create a piece of lettering between the two characters. But the available space was quite small, so I decided to improvise. I created a large “Hello! My name is…” sticker written in Chinese, which I initially planned to use as a space where the participating graffiti artists could leave their signatures.

But the project quickly took on a life of its own.

On the second day, a woman asked me if she could sign the mural too. Since there was almost no space left, I suggested that she sign it with a Posca marker. From that moment on, I decided to open the space to everyone.

Graffiti artists, local residents, visitors, children, adults and elderly people all took turns leaving their name, their tag, or simply a small mark on the mural. The participants ranged in age from 4 to 86 years old.

What was originally intended as a simple space for signatures became a real moment of sharing. People were genuinely happy and proud to be able to participate in the artwork, leave a small trace of their presence, and become part of the creation.

In the end, this mural is no longer just my work: it belongs, in a way, to everyone who left their signature on it.

For me, it was one of the most unforgettable moments of my adventure in China.
